SOSCVIndia – BGA Realtors

The first SOS Children's Village was set up by Hermann Gmeiner in Imst (Austria) in 1949. His aim was to help children in need - children who had lost their homes, families and security during the Second World War.

The first SOS Children's Village in India was established in 1964 at Greenfields Faridabad. Since its inception, SOS Children's Villages of India has expanded its services to thousands of needy children through 33 villages and 122 allied and community projects like Family Strengthening Programmes, Kindergartens, Hermann Gmeiner Schools, Social, Medical, Vocational Training Centers and Nursing School which are spread across the country.

Organization’s Overview

SOS Children's Villages of India is a non-profit, non-government, voluntary organisation committed to the care of children in need. The aim and objective of SOS Children's Villages of India is to provide long term family based care to orphaned children and to strengthen disadvantaged families as a preventive measure against abandonment and social neglect of children.

The Family Based Care concept is based on four principles:

The Mother - Each child has a caring parent.
Brothers and Sisters - Family ties grow naturally.
The House - Each family creates its own home.
The Village - The SOS family is a part of the community.

We build families for children in need, we help them shape their own futures and we share in the development of their communities.

sosimg02Family Based Care Programme - The most unique feature of SOS Children's Villages is the home-like environment. Every child who comes home to a SOS Children's Village steps into a family with a mother, brothers and sisters. Within the family each child is protected and enjoys a sense of belonging. Here children learn values, share responsibilities and form life-long relationships. A SOS Family consists of 8-10 children, both boys and girls who live with their SOS Mother.

Family Strengthening Programme - Responding beyond the SOS Children's Villages' core concept, activities with services for poor children and families living in the vicinity of the Children's Villages and neighborhood communities is also a key programme area of the organization. This programme attempts to assist and empower parents or caregivers in taking care of children in their natural families and communities. In the process it strengthens the families and their children.
